FRANCE YELLOW VESTS WEEK 273: THE FARMERS PROTEST AND THE GOVERNMENTS RESPONSE, PARIS PROTESTS, DISTRACTING EVENTS

                    YELLOW VESTS PROTEST IN PARIS SATURDAY 2/3/2024

During the week the protest movement of French farmers that took root in southwestern regions spread nationwide.

The French farmers protest reflecting the frustration of farmers across the European Union.    Rules and regulations limiting the use of land already in force and more related to climate in the pipeline.

The movement of cheap agricultural goods across the borders of EU nations and goods from beyond its borders an added element of frustration harming French farmers ability to get higher prices for their goods.

Even now the European Union is fast-tracking a deal with the South American nations of MERCOSUR including Argentina and Brazil that would see more cheap goods arriving in France and other European countries.

The protest movement reached a peak on Thursday with some 200 blockades and 10,000 protesters across France according to BFM-TV.

By Thursday both Prime Minister Gabirel Attal and President Emmanuel Macron were responding to the protest with promises of action which moved some farm organizations but not all to suspend the blockades.

Most of the time the police were passive but they made a special effort to protect the Rungis outdoor market near Paris which sells cheap foreign produce.

91 arrests made there on Wednesday along with a few others across the country.

ALSO THE STABBING ATTACK THAT WOUNDED THREE PEOPLE AT THE GARE DE LYON TRAIN STATION THIS MORNING.

THE ATTACKER'S PSYCHIATRIC CONDITION BLAMED FOR POLICE NOT KEEPING HIM IN CUSTODY.

Today in Paris a protest forming this afternoon in support of farmers at the Champ de Mars near the Eiffel Tower.

The rally with hundreds of participants organized by "Les Patriotes" led by former National Rally politician Florian Philippot.

As Philippot took the stage a EU flag was torn the crowd shouting "Frexit" the notion of France getting out of the European Union...

And as usual every Saturday a Yellow Vests protest was held in Paris with a march through the streets.

The farmers protest inspiring the group of 100 or more.

One white banner in support of the farmers reading:

                   "La Raisins De La Colere"

                     "The Grapes Of Wrath"

Outside of Paris today the farmers protests slowing down the last blockades removed from highways but some notable protest actions including the removal of cheap imported agricultural goods from New Zealand and Romania.

Honey was a particular target of a protest action at the Auchan supermarket in Villeneuve d'Ascq near Lille.
