This week France's government with another move against social media raiding the offices of the "X" social media platform in Paris.
It isn't the first time social media has been targeted by the centrist Macron government in France.
In August of 2024 Telegram founder Pavel Durov lured to France by Mr. Macron and then detained by French authorities demanding cooperation with their probe of alleged criminal activity on his platform.
He was later released and allowed to return to his home in the United Arab Emirates.
Now Elon Musk has been summoned to Paris on April 20th along with "X" CEO Linda Yaccarino to answer questions.
The Paris prosecutor citing deepfake porn and Holocaust denial on the "X" platform but the fact that French voters go to the polls next year to elect a new President looms large.
Controlling information on social media in the upcoming election campaign is a high priority for the "moderate centrist" authorities amid the surge of "far-right-wing nationalism".
Also, in the background the efforts of US President Donald Trump and Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to twist France and allied nations to follow their lead.
Mr. Musk aligned with both leaders to a great extent.
