After last week's shock speech from France's Chief of Staff speaking about France faltering if it is not willing to 'accept the loss of its children' President Emmanuel Macron appearing at a military base Thursday to announce phased-in military service for French youth.
18- to 25-year-old men and women are being sought for ten months of voluntary service depending on their expertise.
But the program emphasizes recruitment of 18-and-19-year-olds regardless of their skills.
Those who volunteer can recalled to serve in the military after completing their original term of service.
3,000 'volunteers' will be sought next year with number rising to 50,000 by 2035.

Jordan Bardella made some headlines earlier this year here in the United States.
Bardella cancelled a speech at the CPAC conference due to a hand gesture from political operative Steve Bannon that appeared to be a Nazi salute...NBC News USA...
In recent weeks Bannon identified as an associate of Jeffrey Epstein with Epstein suspected of being an operative for Israel...The Guardian UK...
One could view the Steve Bannon gesture as a pitch to Bardella to help him swing his bat and score against perceived Nazism or Antisemitism helping Mr. Bardella to polish his image ahead of the visit to Israel.
A month later after that incident Bardella traveled to Israel to participate in an Antisemitism conference at the invitation of associates of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu...France 24 Story
Bardella's welcome to Israel by Netanyahu associates can certainly raise suspicion that he may be "Netanyahu's Man" to be the next French President.
This afternoon in Paris the weekly Yellow Vests protest. At the site where the demonstration began some banners displayed including one opposing war and a large banner simply reading:
"Destitution"
A message addressing the inflation and sanctions impacted economic conditions France and Europe currently face.
The French flag and yellow flag with protest signs as well.
Rain was also falling this afternoon umbrellas being used by some of those marching...
