SOCCER FAN RIOTING IN PARIS WEDNESDAY MAY 6, 2026
Nearly 130 people arrested Wednesday night as soccer fans rioted in celebration of the Paris-St. Germain (PSG) victory over Bayern Munich enabling PSG to reach the Champions League final.
There were 11 injuries among rioters and 23 among police.
Interior Minister Laurent Nunez condemning the violence saying that security will be tightened for the PSG-Arsenal final match in Budapest on May 30th...
This week the aircraft carrier "Charles de Gaulle" and escort ships making their way into the Red Sea placing them closer to a possible mission in the Strait of Hormuz.
President Macron linking the mission of the carrier to the notion of "freedom of navigation" in the strait.
This dovetails with US President Donald Trump's messaging regarding 'freedom of navigation' in connection with US naval operations currently underway against Iran including a blockade of the Iranian coast...
On the surface of French politics there is supposed to be a united "Left" bloc that includes the far-left "LFI" (La France Insoumise), Ecologists and the Socialist Party.
But elements of the Socialist Party (PS) appear to be trying to break up the unity ahead of next year's Presidential Election.
Boris Vallaud leader of the Socialists in the National Assembly stepping down from his leadership position in the PS along with others leaving First Secretary Olivier Faure without a majority in the party's leadership.
Vallaud wants Socialists to run their own presidential candidate and decline participation in a primary of the united Left.
Other parties on the Left take a more Pro-Palestinian and Anti-Capitalist view than the Socialist Party...Anadolu Agency Turkey (Türkiye)

Also, in Paris today another protest held by the small "Les Patriotes" party whose leader Florian Philippot used to be involved in the National Rally before he broke away.
The message here pushes the notion of France leaving the European Union.
