While President Trump was making the big news cancelling a planned meeting with North Korea's ruler yesterday (Thursday May 24th), Israel was making a move striking a target at a Syrian air base in the Homs area.
It was apparently a Hezbollah base and "foreigners" were killed according to the anti-Assad British-Saudi backed Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Pro-Syrian government media also claim that US forces killed some pro-Syrian fighters in the eastern part of the country.
Israel often chooses holidays, weekends and times when there are distractions like the big news from President Trump to launch its military actions.
Israel often attacks it enemies in hopes of getting an attack in response from them so they can launch even greater military strikes against those enemies. Israel can also appear to be the victim since the Israeli attacks that triggered the response were done at those 'off times' when people are distracted.
But Iran is probably going to keep a low profile while the diplomatic efforts continue with the European countries to counter the impact of US sanctions imposed in the wake of President Trump's decision to pull out of the nuclear deal with Iran.
Russia, ally of both Syria and Iran, is looking forward to soccer's World Cup in Russia starting June 14th and ending July 15th.
Russia will not want to provoke anything either but between the Europe-Iran diplomacy and the World Cup there is liable to be quite a bit of military action aimed at Syria in the next few months because Israel and or perhaps the United States both have a great window of opportunity.
Don't forget that Russia's enemies staged a coup in Ukraine during the Sochi Olympics in Russia in 2014 but that Russia responded with action to take Crimea afterwards and support a rebellion in Eastern Ukraine.
Watch out for action on the "Syria-Iran-Russia Front" in the weeks ahead, especially when you're distracted by holidays, weekends, sports, major news events elsewhere.
