(EDITING, UPDATES, ADDITIONS ETC. POSSIBLE UNTIL 7AM)

The peace talks are underway behind the scenes in Qatar, but the war in Afghanistan continues with 30 civilians killed in a US airstrike in Helmand province Wednesday.

Just as was the strategy in Vietnam 50 years ago the increased pace of air strikes are aimed at driving the pace of the peace talks.

The President's son-in-law Jared Kushner is set to receive Mexico's top award today, the Order of the Aztec Eagle.   Kushner is getting the award for negotiating the recent trade deal with the USA.

His wife Ivanka Trump will help represent the United States at the inauguration of Mexico's incoming President Manuel Lopez Obrador on Saturday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin says that Ukraine deliberately staged the incident in the Kerch Strait last Sunday when three Ukrainian warships deliberately tried to enter the Sea of Azov, which is under Russian supervision.

Authorities in Moscow are also saying that yesterday's phoned in bomb threat that prompted numerous evacuations around the Russian capital came from Ukraine.

The Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is urging NATO to send warships to Sea of Azov following last Sunday's incident.

The Kremlin  says that Russia's President Vladmir Putin will discuss the Jamal Khashoggi murder when Putin meets Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman in Buenos Aires at the G20 summit.

A prosecutor in Argentina launched an investigation of Mohammed Bin Salman as the Crown Prince arrived there Wednesday for the G20 summit.   The investigation is focused on the Saudi activities in the civil war in Yemen and how they may be violating human rights.

The US Senate has voted 63-37 to move forward a motion to end US support for the Saudi led coalition fighting the civil war in Yemen.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis urged Senators not to support the motion.

Pompeo and Mattis appeared before the Senate Intelligence Committee Wednesday urging support for Saudi Arabia in spite of the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul on October 2nd.

Not appearing before the closed door hearing was CIA Director Gina Haspel, who has heard the audio recording of Khashoggi's murder.    News reports have said that the CIA believes Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman was involved in the murder.   Some Senators were upset by her absence.

Pledging to withhold his vote on key legislation until there is a CIA briefing of the intelligence committee is Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.

When the vote was taken inside the Democrats House caucus Nancy Pelosi was the winner for Speaker of the House, but 32 Progressive left-leaning Democrats declined to support her.

If she cannot command those 32 votes on the floor in January she will not be able to win the contest for Speaker.

We shall if her opposition is still there in January or if its just kabuki.

Over in the UK Bank of England governor Mark Carney has warned of recession if their is a no-deal Brexit.

His warning appears to be another attempt by political and business leaders to shore up support for Prime Minister Theresa May's plan for Brexit she is trying to push through Parliament.

Supporters of Brexit see her plan as a fake Brexit and a sellout to the European Union that will keep the EU in control of the UK.
