                   NEWS SUMMARY AT THIS HOUR


British Prime Minister Theresa May got her cabinet to back her approach to Brexit after a 12-hour meeting at her country home, Checkers, tonight.

Her plan envisions Britain remaining under European  Union regulations and control with separate sets of rules for goods imported into the UK and those moving onto the EU countries.

Supporters of Brexit see her plan as a sellout of Brexit and a plan that will hurt the ability of the UK to forge a trade deal with the United States promised by President Trump in conjunction with Brexit.

Some wonder whether the EU will be amenable to her plan as well, suggesting that EU officials may reject it.

The details of President Trump's visit to the United Kingdom next Thursday and Friday were rolled out today.   Much of the time Trump will be outside of London where mass protests are planned.

His itinerary includes a Thursday night dinner at Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Winston Churchill and the President during his visit will meet the British Prime Minister Theresa May at her country home, Checkers, and Her Majesty The Queen at Windsor Castle.

There are calls tonight from the leading Republican officials in the state of Indiana for the resignation of the state's Republican Attorney General Curtis Hill.  Both Governor Eric Holcomb and House Speaker Brian Bosma want Hill out because he's accused of inappropriately touching two women.

The women making the accusation are both Democrats.  One a member of the State House of Representatives and the other a spokeswoman for Democrats in the Indiana State Senate.  Hill has denied the allegations calling them a "travesty" and says he will not resign.  He is calling for a 'fair and thorough' independent investigation. 

Canada's Prime Minister admitted Thursday that an incident happened when he touched a woman nearly 18 years ago in August of 2000 and apologized to her afterwards.    He did not say he acted inappropriately in touching the female journalist involved, but said he apologized because of her perception of the incident. 

On Friday, the woman involved broke her silence about the incident and said it happened as described but added she will not speak any further about the incident or participate in any debate about it.

New tariffs were imposed on Chinese goods Friday and China responded with a set of its own tariffs against US goods.   President Trump took the action to prevent China from eroding US industrial leadership in the world especially in new fields like robotics and artificial intelligence.

China's official government newspaper, "China Daily". accused the United States of  "behaving like a gang of hoodlums".

Good news in the employment statistics rolled out in Washington today.   More Americans are rejoining the labor force.  While unemployment ticked up two tenths of a percentage point to 4.0 percent, its because more people have now put themselves back into the US job market.

Opposition forces in a large part of southwestern Syria have decided to stop fighting.   They have agreed to a reconciliation plan that will have them surrendering heavy weapons to Russian military police and either rejoining with the regime of President Bashar Assad or being bused to another part of Syria controlled by opposition forces.

Russian military police arrived Friday at the Nassib border crossing with Jordan as part of the deal.

A senior official for the  Iranian backed Hezbollah movement in Lebanon called the turn of events in southern Syria a "resounding defeat" for Israel and the United States.

The UN says hundreds of thousands were displaced by the recent fighting with many finding refuge close to Israeli military positions in the Golan Heights.   Ten wounded Syrians came across the border to Israel for medical treatment in the last eight days with Israeli humanitarian assistance rolling across the border into Syria.

The National Hurricane Center has issued a Hurricane Watch for the island of Dominica along with a Tropical Storm Watch for Martinique, Guadeloupe, St. Martin and St. Barthelemy ahead of Hurricane Beryl with maximum sustained winds of 80 miles per hour right now 890 miles east of the islands moving westwards at 14 miles per hour and its expected to cross the Lesser Antilles island chain late Sunday or early Monday.
