US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says that any Syrian government offensive to retake northern parts of the country held by opposition forces including Al Qaeda jihadists  would be an "escalation".

CNN says it has been told by US government sources that a list of targets in Syria have been selected for attack if there is a chemical weapons attack by the government side.

Russia has said that British intelligence and opposition jihadists are planning a false flag chemical attack in northern Syria with the Syrian government saying 44 children have been kidnapped by the "White Helmets" group for use in the staged incident.

The leader of the Russian separatist "Donetsk People's Republic" in eastern Ukraine, Alexander Zakharchenko, was killed in an explosion Friday.   Russia's Foreign Ministry blames the Ukrainian government for what it calls a terrorist attack.

Ukraine said it wasn't involved and the bombing was about internal conflict within the separatist region.

An associate of one-time Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort has pled guilty to charges of failing to report his lobbying work for a pro-Russian political party in Ukraine.

Sam Patten was charged by Washington DC prosecutors after a referral from Special Counsel Robert Mueller.    Patten could face five years in prison and will cooperate with Mueller' office.

In 2016 candidate Donald Trump was calling him "lying Ted Cruz" but on Friday President Trump was tweeting his support for Senator Ted Cruz's re-election this year, saying: "Ted has my complete and total endorsement".

The President plans to be in Texas to rally for Cruz in October.

Late Friday President Trump touted the latest Rasmussen Poll giving him a 48 percent approval rating going into the Labor Day weekend beginning of the mid-term election campaign.

The United States is withdrawing 200 million dollars in support for the UN relief agency that works with Palestinian refugees.

US UN Ambassador Nikki Haley has spoken of an "endless number of refugees" and "bashing" of the United States by the Palestinians.

Germany's Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has said his country is putting up 118 million dollars to replace the lost US funding and is urging other countries to provide money.

Five people associated with the New Mexico compound who were granted bail by a local judge have been arrested by the FBI and are in custody ahead of a federal court hearing Tuesday.  They face charges including unlawful possession of firearms by an illegal immigrant.

No trade deal with Canada on the Friday deadline set by the Trump Administration, but talks will continue next week.

Argentina's peso stabilized on Friday after two days of sharp declines.   The government's request for release of 50 billion dollars in International Monetary Fund aid comes with strings attached.

Officials in Buenos Aires were working on austerity measures expected to be announced Monday.   Meanwhile the left-wing opposition led by former President Cristina Fernandez was already calling for demonstrations in the streets.

The memorial service this morning for Senator John McCain at National Cathedral in Washington will include eulogies from two former presidents, Barack Obama and George W. Bush, along with former Senator Joe Lieberman and former Secretary of State Dr. Henry Kissinger plus his daughter Meghan McCain.

The "New York Times" says this morning:  "Many in the cathedral and beyond will watch how Mr. Bush and Mr. Obama use the moment not just to pay tribute to their mutual vanquished opponent but to send a message of their own to the man who now occupies the white building on Pennsylvania Avenue where they once lived".

McCain will be buried tomorrow at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

Two Americans were injured in yesterday's stabbing attack in the Netherlands.   That's the word from the US Ambassador there Pete Hoekstra.

A 19-year old Afghan was arrested in connection with the attack at Amsterdam's Central Railroad Station.

18 people were injured when a jet skidded off a runway in the southern Russian resort city of Sochi early Saturday morning.  Utair Flight 579 was carrying 164 passengers and crew of six on a flight from Moscow.

A worker at the airport suffered a fatal heart attack during the rescue operation.   Injuries included burns and carbon monoxide poisoning.

And the clergyman who led Aretha Franklin's funeral service yesterday has apologized amid accusations he groped singer Ariana Grande during the service.

Pictures were posted online with the  hashtag "#RespectAriana".   One of them showed his hand on the side of her breast along with other pictures that showed Grande being uncomfortable with the situation.

Bishop Charles H. Ellis III told the Associated Press:  "It would never be my intention to touch any woman's breast....Maybe I crossed the border, maybe I was too friendly or familiar.  But again I apologize".
