POLICE SHOOTING OF 17-YEAR OLD MOTORIST IN NANTERRE TUESDAY 6/27/2023

                      "Justice pour Nahel"

read a white banner of protest as thousands marched in the Paris suburb of Nanterre Thursday afternoon.

On Tuesday morning at 830 17-year-old Nahel was behind the wheel as police attempted to stop him for a traffic violation.    As he drove off an officer fired into the vehicle fatally wounding him.

Police in France have been pumped up by the government of President Emmanuel Macron who unleashed the forces of "Law and Order" the forces of the "Republican Order" in France to deal with the mass protests of the Yellow Vests in the late fall of 2018.

But in the face of the video of the incident and the appearance of an unjustified use of force Mr. Macron was quick to condemn the shooting.

Macron calling it "inexplicable and inexcusable".    The officer taken into custody and charged with manslaughter.

The support for the police amidst their use of violence against Yellow Vests that led to injuries and deaths in 2018 and 2019 has included the passage of legislation to keep people from making videos close to police officers.

In the aftermath of the police killing of the teenager this week the quick arrest and imprisonment of an individual who revealed the police officer's name and his home address.

As violent incidents piled up into the end of the week the opposition National Rally calling for strong action against violence up to and including a state of emergency.

The Left in France calling for emergency action on police violence.

Many of those arrested young people and some government officials like Minister of Justice Eric Dupond-Moretti urging parents to get involved and use 'parental authority' to prevent violent actions.

This police shooting-killing incident involved a teenager of North African descent again highlighting immigration and the consequences of immigration for French culture and society.

At least for now the contentious issue of pension reform which was harmful to President Macron politically is on the sidelines.

FRANCE HAS HAD PROTEST EVENTS WITH MUCH MORE VIOLENCE AND INTENSITY, EVENTS THAT WERE DEADLY IN THE PAST IN 1934, 1968 AND EVEN AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YELLOW VESTS PROTESTS IN 2018.

THERE SEEMS TO BE A BIT OF HYPE IN THESE EVENTS AN ATTEMPT TO CREATE A CRISIS TO PUMP UP THE IMAGE OF THE GOVERNMENT IN DEALING WITH THE 'CRISIS'.

For now that is the story of France and the Yellow Vests.
