Since the days of the Soviet invasion-occupation of Afghanistan the United States has maintained close ties to Saudi Islamists and used them and those inspired by them to fight enemies of the United States up to and including the late Muammar Gaddafi and President Bashar Assad of Syria.
These are people like the late Osama Bin Laden.
Keep in mind 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers were Saudi citizens.
That relationship continues today and is evolving into its next phases which may include warfare against Russia and Iran, not to mention China.
