Former US Representative John Conyers is dead.   He represented parts of Detroit in Congress for more than 50 years.    He chaired the House Judiciary Committee and was a critic of the FBI among other things holding hearings about the 1993 Waco deadly related activities of the agency.

Conyers also was considered more than just a "liberal" by conservative activists of a bygone era, who all but said he was in essence a  "Communist" working undercover inside Congress.

Conyers left the House under an ethical cloud and he can also be considered a political "forefather" of the current member of Congress from Detroit, Rashida Tlaib.
