September marks the 60th anniversary of the drive to fully colorize television here in the United States.
NBC led in color television building up to several hours a day of color broadcasting in the 1950's but the economy went into a downturn.
But by 1965 NBC benefitted from lower income tax rates first proposed by John F. Kennedy and implemented by Lyndon Johnson in 1964.
This month 60 years ago NBC went full color in prime time by November news programs switched to color and by the summer of 1966 all programs were in color.
Competitors CBS and ABC in that order followed suit to make their schedules all color by the summer of 1967.
